IS IT A SCAM?

Unfortunately the most likely answer is, YES, it is a scam. We are being inundated with televison, radio, mail and internet advertising promising easy money if we just follow some "experts" advice. In these schemes the wealth of a few is being made by the failures of the many. The one theme that runs through all of these ads is sending money to someone you don't know. It's not that we are naive or dumb, rather these sting operators have perfected their schemes to the point that we are almost compelled by their hype to sign the check. Fortunately there are a few simple rules that will help you avoid the seductive Sirens calling for you to crash on the rocks.

COMMON SENSE IS THE BEST DEFENSE!

We are at our most vulnerable when short on cash and overwhelmed by bill collectors. Don't let desperation overwhelm your good sense. The oldie "if it sounds too good to be true" is just as applicable to the internet as it was to the snake oil salesman. Any opportunity that promises easy money or that it is risk free is lying. No business exists where the money is "easy" or there is no risk.

ASK QUESTIONS!

Get detailed information about the company and its compensation plan. Check out the products and compare the pricing and quality with similar items available in your local stores. Pushing high priced inferior quality merchandise is one of he quickest ways to lose friends and be excluded from family functions. Talk to several REAL people that are in the business and have bought the products. Many of the "satisfied customers" may really only be satisfied with their paychecks from the commercials.

KICK THE TIRES!

Would you buy a car without taking it for a test drive? If possible purchase a limited amount of the product and try it yourself. NEVER respond to an anonymous offer. Check out the contact information for the business. If it is legitimate they want you to know who they are and where they are located. Ask if you can visit the home office. At least with this information you will know where to send the police.

DON'T BE AFRAID!

Owning your own home business is one of the few ways left to become wealthy (outside of having a rich uncle). The computer and the internet have opened up new opportunities that are now accessible from our living rooms. You now have the ability to take control of your time and your life. Trade some of those unproductive hours watching TV and start building your own future. The perfect home business awaits.
