| Solidgoldmonthly for December
December 15, 2003
It's a jungle out there! The purpose of this ezine is to guide you through the swamp and onto the mountaintop. Life is a journey; Solidgoldmonthly is here to bring provisions and guide maps to assist you in finding the path of success. The world recieived an early Christmas present this weekend with the capture of Saddam Hussein. Hopefully this will shorten the time our troops will be in Iraq and insure stability in that part of the world. We always pray for world peace this time of year and maybe this is a step in that direction. If you have some frequent flyer miles that you would like to donate so that a soldier can fly home to visit please see the link at the end of "A Soldier's Christmas". Does this time of year bring on a case of the "holiday blues" for you? You are not alone. Many people find it hard to enjoy the spirit of the holidays for a variety of reasons; a recent death of a loved one, sickness or poor health, loneliness, loss of a job, too much family stress, and so on. If this describes you then beat the blues by doing something nice for another person. Visit an elderly person, donate food or clothing or time to a local charity, shovel your neighbor's walk, or whatever. It will give you a break from your worries and you will feel good about helping someone else. Give it a try! What have you got to lose ... but the blues! Thank you for agreeing to receive our ezine. A Soldier's Christmas The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed 'round the room and I cherished the sight; My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Outside the snow fell....a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight; The sparkling lights on the tree, I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve. My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep; In perfect contentment, or so it would seem. So I slumbered in peace, then I started to dream. The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, But I opened my eyes when it came to my ear; Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow. My soul gave a tremble. I struggled to hear, And I crept to the door just to see who was near; Standing out there alone in the cold of the night, A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight. A soldier, I reckoned, some eighteen years old, Perhaps a Marine, huddled there in the cold; Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, Standing watch over me, my wife, and my child. "What are you doing?" I asked without fear, "Come in this moment! It's freezing out here; Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve, You should be at home on this cold Christmas Eve!" For barely a moment, I saw his eyes shift, Away from the cold, and the snow in a drift; To the windows that danced with a warm fire's light, Then he sighed, and he said, "It's really all right." "I'm out here by choice. I'm here all the time, It's my duty to stand at the front of the line; No one has to ask me, or beg, or implore, I'm proud to stand here like my father before." "My grandpa at Pearl, on a day in December, Is a memory my grandma will always remember; My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam, And now it's my turn, and so, here I am. I've not seen my family in more than a while, But my parents send pictures. They're great for a smile." Then he bent down and carefully pulled from his bag, The Red, White, and Blue. An American flag. "I can live through the cold, and this being alone, Away from my family, my house, and my home; I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, I can sleep in a foxhole, with little to eat. I can carry the weight of killing another, Or lay down my life for my buddy.....my brother; Who stand here with me against any and all, To insure for all time that this flag does not fall. So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright, Your family is waiting and I'll be all right." "But isn't there something I can do, at the least, Give you some money? Prepare you a feast? It seems all too little for all that you do, Being away from your home and your family too." Then his eyes welled a tear that held no regret, "Just tell us you love us, and never forget; To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone; To stand your own watch, no matter how long. For when we come home, wither standing or dead, To know you remember we fought and we bled, Is payment enough, and with that we will trust, That we mattered to you, as you mattered to us." Jokes Wayne's Yesterday, I had a near death experience that has changed me forever. I went horseback riding. Everything was going fine until the horse started bouncing out of control. I tried with all my might to hang on, but was thrown off. Just when things could not possibly get worse, my foot got caught in the stirrup. When this happened, I fell head first to the ground. My head continued to bounce harder as the horse did not stop or even slow down. Just as I was giving up hope and losing consciousness, the WalMart manager came over and unplugged it. Carolyn's Eight-year-old Sally brought her report card home from school. Her marks were good...mostly A's and a couple of B's. However, her teacher had written across the bottom: 'Sally is a smart little girl, but she has one fault. She talks too much in school. I have an idea I am going to try, which I think may break her of the habit.' Sally's dad signed her report card, putting a note on the back: Please let me know if your idea works on Sally because I would like to try it out on her mother. --------------------------------------------- The Easy Way It's human nature, I suppose, to take the easy way. After all, many inventions and ground-breaking-new tools are about reducing the work of doing things. There have even been physical fitness machines to reduce the work of "getting fit." This example, in particular, leads us to the "downside point" of what we'll be discussing here. It's natural to seek to reduce the amount of work required to accomplish one's task. If not, we'd still be hunting with rocks and spears. And those kinds of innovative tools are great. But when you cross the line into the world of the "get-it- quick-and-easy", well... that's where it gets ugly. Which brings me back to the physical fitness machines that need no work... Remember that machine that would send millions of little shocks into your abdominal muscles, causing them to contract and thereby giving you "abs of rock"? Sorry, "abs of rock" requires millions of situps. That machine was a total fraud, devoted to separating people from their money due to this basic law of nature... "Hard work pays off later. Laziness pays off now!" There are, unfortunately, millions of these "easy-abs-of-rock" guys in the Net marketing business, ready to prey upon... the opportunity seekers -- buys one biz-opp after another the get-rich-quick chaser -- doomed to disappointment the latest scheme sucker -- over and over again. It takes only a second to think logically... "Hey, wait a second, if that 'Instant-Money-Button' really worked-as-advertised, why would it be for sale?" But when under the spell of the latest "get-rich-quick," something happens to the logic center of the brain -- the blood supply to it shuts down. Are you one of these people? I hope not. I hope that you're one of the smart home business persons that understands that you need to work one legitimate program, stick with it for at least a good solid year and you will start seeing positive results. Those who work with patience and persistence will eventually accumulate several multiple streams of income that could very well lead to the life they aspire to have. ---------------------------------------------

Emergency Vehicle Laws
"In July 2002, a new state law went into effect requiring motorists to move over one lane when they see troopers, police, firefighters or rescue personnel on the side of the highway. The traffic ticket for violating the law is a year in jail and a $2,500 fine." This is from Virgina traffic law but many other states have similar provisons and we have reports of stings being run in Florida for unattentitive motorists. This just makes sense. Be alert to emergency vehicles and yield them the right of way. If you are being stopped don't pull over in the median or stop in the lane. Slow down, put on your flashers and pull over at a safe place. Having to dodge traffic will ensure an unhappy officer deciding whether to issue you a ticket or a warning. -------------------------------------------
